Course Structure

  1. Introduction to Hotel Housekeeping — Understand the housekeeping department, room attendant responsibilities, professional conduct, productivity expectations and how housekeeping supports the guest journey.
  2. Room Status & Housekeeping Communication — Use common room-status terminology, understand discrepancies and communicate room readiness accurately with Reception and supervisors.
  3. Guest Room Cleaning Sequence — Follow a systematic room-entry, ventilation, waste removal, cleaning, replenishment and final-check workflow while respecting hotel procedures.
  4. Beds, Linen & Laundry Awareness — Apply professional bed-making principles, handle clean and soiled linen correctly, recognise linen-control requirements and reduce avoidable damage or loss.
  5. Bathrooms, Amenities & Hygiene Standards — Clean and present bathrooms systematically, replenish amenities, recognise high-touch areas and follow hygiene and cross-contamination controls.
  6. Room Inspection & Quality Standards — Use room-inspection principles, identify defects, verify presentation and report maintenance or safety issues before a room is released.
  7. Guest Privacy, Security & In-Room Conduct — Respect Do Not Disturb instructions, guest property and confidentiality; safeguard keys/access and escalate security or welfare concerns appropriately.
  8. Lost Property, Chemicals & Safety Awareness — Follow lost-property reporting and storage procedures and recognise safe chemical-handling, labels, PPE and escalation requirements without replacing specialist safety training.
  9. Public Areas, Teamwork & Department Coordination — Maintain public-area standards and coordinate effectively with Reception, Maintenance, Laundry and supervisors during arrivals, departures and priority-room requests.
  10. Practical Housekeeping Scenarios & Final Assessment — Apply housekeeping knowledge to realistic room-readiness, privacy, lost-property, maintenance and guest-request scenarios and complete the final assessment.

Assessment & Certificate

Recommended pass mark: 80%. Learners who satisfy the Academy completion requirements may receive a RICS Learning Academy Certificate of Completion. Where a subject requires statutory, regulated or externally accredited training, this Academy course is supplementary and does not replace that requirement.
